Who are the people at the protests in GUSD?

Proud Boys, far-right extremists, people without children in GUSD, and/or parents who are falling for targeted far-right online disinformation campaigns make up the bulk of the people at our recent protests.

We have also seen a handful of parents who advocate for homeschooling at GUSD Board meetings this spring and at community events this summer. You can see more on-the-ground coverage of the June 6th event here.

Do they represent most GUSD parents’ beliefs?

No. The majority of actual GUSD parents, teachers and Glendale residents who support public education have consistently showed up in support of existing GUSD’s fully transparent policies and procedures.

Because we are parents and not paid protesters, and many of us fear for our children’s safety, the louder side is more visible on corporate media coverage.

This outsiders’ circus has targeted our town and has taken our community’s focus off of actual GUSD students who need to be learning in a safe environment. GUSD and the city of Glendale are spending tens of thousands of dollars on Public Records Act Requests and additional policing for Board and City Council meetings.

Is there any truth to the allegations about what is being taught?

No. Everything is false.

The lies these people are spreading is the same disinformation we have seen spread in Chino Valley Unified, Temecula Unified, and at Saticoy Elementary protests in LAUSD. In fact, many of the same people repeating the same lies have been seen at each of these protests.

Worse still, these extremists have been mocking courageous students who speak out for inclusion and tolerance by circulating their images online (this is against the law). Community members have been followed home from board meetings after giving supportive public comments. THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

It’s up to us to spread the word that GUSD, like all public school districts in the state of California, is following the laws and policies governing public education curriculum requirements and students’ and parents’/guardians’ rights.

Our five-member school board and superintendent are dedicated parents and community members who are committed to protecting every child’s right to learn in a safe, inclusive environment.

Make a plan to vote in City Council and School Board elections on March 5th, 2024. All voters will once again receive a vote-by-mail ballot between February 5th and March 5th.

If you live in La Crescenta/Montrose/Sparr Heights or the Riverside Rancho/Southwest Glendale GUSD Trustee Areas, you will be voting for a school board candidate on your ballot.
